THE VA ADMINISTERS TWO MAJOR VA DISABILITY BENEFITS PROGRAMS FOR VETERANS:

  • COMPENSATION

    • This is the disability benefits requiring current medical condition, in-service stress or, and NEXIS

  • PENSION

    • A veteran must have been discharged under other than dishonorable conditions

    • Active service that includes a total of 90 days during period of war (these periods are defined)

    • Have limited income and net worth ("THE NEEDS TEST")

    • Veteran (under 65 years old) is totally and permanently disabled at application​

      • Vets (aged 65 and older) may be eligible for aid & Attendance (A&A) for medical frailty.

BUT THERE ARE ALSO TWO MAJOR BENEFIT PROGRAMS ADMINISTERED BY THE VA FOR ELIGIBLE SURVIVING RELATIVES (USUALLY THE SURVIVING SPOUSE) OF DECEASED VETERANS:

  • DEPENDENCY AND INDEMNITY COMENSATION (DIC) DEATH PENSION
